Composite Restorations

If your child is diagnosed with small cavities, composite restorations better known as “white fillings” can be completed. This process requires the removal of the decayed portion of the tooth and for that area to be replaced with a filling.

Stainless Steel Crown (Silver cap)

Sometimes sugar bugs eat away too much of your kiddos tooth and a traditional white filling just is not enough. In these cases, an “Ironman helmet” or “princess tiara” will be placed over the top of the baby tooth in order to allow the tooth to retain its functional purpose. The crown will come out when the baby tooth is ready to be lost; and has no effect on the permanent tooth. Dr. S only does this type of procedures on molars.

NuSmile Crowns

There can be many reasons your child’s front baby teeth may need fixed and, depending on the situation, NuSmile crowns may be what is in your child’s best interest. They are all white crowns made from zirconia that are designed to replicate the size and shape of the baby tooth that requires treatment. Maintaining the front primary teeth until they are ready to fall out is important both for speech development and functionality.

Extractions

There are certain circumstances where your child’s baby tooth may require an early visit from the tooth fairy. Often times an orthodontist will require a baby tooth to be removed to either help create more space, or prevent a permanent tooth from becoming impacted. Sometimes accidents happen, and the teeth may sustain an injury while playing sports, or just playing with siblings. Finally, the sugar bugs just eat away too much of the tooth that this is the only option. If any of these situations become a reality for your child, Dr. S and his team will ensure that your kiddo is as comfortable as possible for the procedure.
